Replacing SNOMED codes in XML search

I have a number of XML files made to measure how regularly a patient sees a specific clinician (measuring continuity).

I am interested to run these searches in EMIS but due to the fact our practice is in Wales, and SNOMED is not in use here yet, EMIS generates an error.

I am wondering if can remove the SNOMED codes from the XML files and replace with an alternative - but would be grateful for any advice?

Hi Jonny,

Welcome to the NHS England API Developer community.

As you have found, Welsh GP systems still use Read v2 / CTV3 and do not hold the SNOMED dictionary, so EMIS flags every SNOMED code as invalid and refuses to import or run the XML.

This would be one for EMIS Customer Support - who may be able to confirm which Read dictionary build - your Welsh practice is on and whether a concept already exists under a local extension.

My understanding is that EMIS won’t run SNOMED-coded searches in Wales. The alternative solution maybe to either rebuild the code sets in Read, or use the TRUD cross-map to bulk-replace the concept IDs in the XML before importing.

Additional info that may be of use:

Hope the above helps.

Thanks,
