I’ve submitted a request asking for SNOMED equivalents of LOINC codes around Physical Activity (to support integration with Apple HealthKit and Google Health). LOINC Codes and documentation of process is here Physical Activity Measures - Physical Activity Implementation Guide v1.0.1
We need these SNOMED codes to write back data to GP Systems.
Request id is 52404, which was submitted in Nov 2024. How do I chase this up?
Hi Kevin,
Sorry to hear that you have not yet had a response for your query (Ref:52404). Was this query logged with the SNOMED team?
We have had a look for the Request ID you provided and it is not on our (NHS England API Platform team’s) ServiceNOW portal or query systems.
Can you please send a chaser email to the SNOMED CT team within NHS England: information.standards@nhs.net
Additional info:
LOINC (Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes) is a universal coding system used to identify health measurements, observations, and documents. It is widely used in healthcare to standardize data, ensuring interoperability across systems. SNOMED CT (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine - Clinical Terms) is another coding standard, often used for clinical information in electronic health records (EHRs). Both standards play essential roles in integrating healthcare data, with LOINC focusing on lab tests and observations, while SNOMED CT represents clinical terms.

Within the Standards for Trial Use 3 version of FHIR published by HL7, there are specific mandatory requirements when using observations that describe vital signs. FHIR has decided that such observations must make use of a “magic value” that happens to be a Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) code.
Within the UK, SNOMED CT is the clinical terminology that is to be used not LOINC. It is important to recognise that when using FHIR observations resources within the UK, systems must ensure that as well as the FHIR mandated LOINC “magic value”, an appropriate SNOMED CT value is also included. The LOINC value should never be used on its own.
Hope the above helps.
Thanks,
