Seeking for assistance on Dm+D API

We are TIF Framework partner of NHS, we are currently working with dm+d API, provided by the ontology server and have successfully integrated the functionality to search for medicines. However, We are encountering difficulties in accessing detailed information related to dosage instructions, warnings, and allergy information associated with these medicines.

I would appreciate if anyone could recommend appropriate solutions for this.

Hello, Thanks for your query. I’ll speak to my colleagues and get back to you with a response shortly.

Hello again, Having spoken with the terminology colleagues they all agree that they’d be happy to set up a call with you to understand in more detail the workflow you are looking to support through the integration. The team will be able to answer in detail around the use of dm+d and the content / capabilities that the terminology server provides, and it’s relationship to decision support workflows, however the server (and dm+d), does not in itself offer decision support.

In relation to the specifics of decision support: There are several routes / vendors offering decision support services in the UK, however given the commercial sensitivities it would not be appropriate for us to advise or provide any preferences.

I hope that helps if you would like to set up a call please let us know via epssupport@nhs.net and the team will arrange for you, and in the meantime the following links may be of help.

The dm+d website, in which the section dm+d Data Model: dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d) - NHS England Digital gives a clear overview of the service the dm+d product provides and information it includes.

Within this section it also confirms that:

dm+d does NOT provide:

application functionality

decision support functionality; dm+d is not a decision support system although it does provide information that these systems will utilise…

… The Terminology server it’s goal, and it’s capabilities, here: The NHS England Terminology Server - NHS England Digital

And in regard to decision support there is the NHS publication from last year: NHS England » Supporting clinical decisions with health information technology

Hope this helps
