PDS application-restricted access mode when triggered by an end user

Hi,

We currently have an integration between our application and PDS using HL7v3 webservice interface.

We are currently permitted to allow authenticated users of our application to request a PDS Simple Trace and PDS Retrieval, provided that the requesting user is logged for later interrogation if needed.

Note that these users are authenticated within our application only, not authenticated with the NHS using smartcard or similar.

The PDS FHIR documentation states with regard to the application-restricted access mode that “This access mode is not designed to be accessed by an end user”. This is therefore contrary to the permission our application already has when accessing the PDS using the HL7v3 interactions.

Has anybody else found themselves with this situation, and if so how was it resolved?

Kind regards

Neil

If a user is present, then the usual integration path is to use CIS2 Authentication for Healthcare workers, or NHS login for citizens.

Are you already integrated with one of these? If so, then the separate auth model is easily integrated.
