Non-NHS Student - project suggestions?

Hi,

I’m a PhD student. I’m looking for a coding project to do and I had a tiny bit of exposure to NHS/healthcare APIs in a startup competition I did. I’m in this community because I found it difficult to ask professionals as I don’t know anyone who works in the NHS except nurses/doctors.

  1. Is it possible for non-NHS people/companies to develop APIs even as a hobby project?

  2. If so, how do I go about this?

  3. What are the major problems with REST APIs used/developed in NHS?
