I am just wondering if any AI solutions like Gemini, OpenAI are integrable with NHS APIs and there are any use cases here anyone can provide. Thanks in advance,

Hi,

NHS England is actively exploring AI, including generative AI tools and large language models like those from OpenAI and Google Gemini, but there is currently no broadly documented integration of commercial AI platforms with NHS APIs.

Some of the API development teams are already using generative AI tools to help with API development - e.g. building Open API Specs for APIs using Gen AI tools.

The NHS AI Lab resources at https://transform.england.nhs.uk/ai-lab/ , AI Regulation - NHS AI Lab programmes - NHS Transformation Directorate and The NHS AI Lab roadmap - NHS Transformation Directorate focus on creating a regulatory environment for AI in healthcare rather than highlighting specific integrations.

Many projects funded through the AI in Health and Care Award use machine learning in areas such as diagnostic pathways, imaging, and operational planning, but they rely on custom models or vendor-approved solutions that align with regulatory standards.

Any AI tool handling patient data or providing clinical support must adhere to frameworks like DTAC, MHRA, NICE, and DSPT, as described on AI Regulation - NHS AI Lab programmes - NHS Transformation Directorate and NHS England » Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.

Developers wishing to explore generative AI in the NHS should consider sandbox environments, pilot agreements, and integration possibilities with existing resources like the GP Connect API, while ensuring robust data security and governance.
