Logging In with NHS Smartcard causes server to lock

Hello,

So I recently got new Smartcards for the eRs environment, and currently i am experiencing an issue where whenever I connect the smartcard and log in, the device will instantly locked, and when I relog it will continue to lock until the smartcards are removed.

We had a set before hand however they expired and we got a new set re-issued

The hyperlink attached has a video recording of the issue

Hi @luke - Welcome to the forum.

This sounds like an issue with authentication/CIS2, rather than e-RS specifically, so I am redirecting this to them initially for them to pick up.

Thanks,
Z.

Hi @luke,

If this is an issue happening in the Live Production environment, please can you raise a ticket via the helpdesk:-

Point of contact
National Service Desk

Online portal: NHS England Customer Portal

Email: ssd.nationalservicedesk@nhs.net

Telephone: 0300 303 5035

This will ensure the correct team picks it up and the correct priority and resources are given to a Live issue.

At this current time its not a production issues we are trying to connect to the integration environment of ERS.

I think i have narrowed down the issue to the NHS Credential Manager being out-dated since we are currently using 1.1.0.0, and the latest is 1.4.2.0

however this has introduced another issue of us not being able to update it since the website does not load, however this server should have a connection to HSCN since we use it for other integrations

Is the URL I have tried:

https://nww.digital.nhs.uk/dir/downloads/NHS.CredentialManagement.Setup-1.4.2.0.msi

Hi @luke - You have the correct link to update Credential Manager to v1.4.2, screenshot to page attached.

It does need HSCN access so please check your server configuration.

Hi @luke,

try this link, does not require

Also i would suggest downloading and installing the following software version as this version does not need HSCN conection to use smartcards. There are a few more advantages and differences with the old software.
https://ssp.dirteam.nhs.uk/dir/downloads/NHS.CredentialManagement.Setup-3.2.2.0.msi

Let me know if you have any questions or issues.

Manish

Thank you i will give this software a try

Ok, So installing the update to date version of the credential manager did not resolve the issue as i had hoped.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be happening?

Hi Luke, it doesn’t sound like normal NHS Credential Management App behaviour - the app can be configured to lock the screen when the card is removed. Are you running any other software (Imprivata, IsoSec, etc) or enterprise configurations that may cause this? Is this only on your device or impacting others, etc
As mentioned in another comment, the quickest solution is to raise a support ticket on Service Now for the team to investigate and track
