National Care Records Service (NCRS)
The National Care Records Service (NCRS) allows clinicians, care workers, administrators and healthcare professionals free access to information from multiple NHS England services.
NCRS is an easy way to access comprehensive patient information from several different sources. This includes:
- flags and safeguarding alerts
- patient demographic information
- Summary Care Records (SCR)
- National Record Locator (NRL) docum ents*
- GP Connect data from patients’ GP systems
- chargeable status and Home Office information
- a shortcut to local Shared Care Records (ShCR) from inside NCRS*

What makes NCRS different?
Quick access to combined patient information
NCRS offers quick access to key national patient information, such as medications, allergies and immunisations. Information is available from Summary Care Record (SCR), National Record Locator (NRL) and other systems, along with details of specialised patient care.
Cross-boundary or out of hours patient care
NCRS offers access to records for treating patients outside of their local Integrated Care System (ICS) area. These settings include emergency departments, urgent treatment centres or out-of-hours pharmacy services.
Web-based universal access
NCRS is accessible on the internet and the Health and Social Care Network (HSCN). Users can access up to date patient information at any time of day, regardless of their local IT system. Desktop and mobile support allows NCRS access in clinical, office or mobile settings.
