Hi all. We have been using EMIS Partner API and able to make both inbound and outbound requests. Is it possible to file medication as consultation using file record call. We are able to file attachments and coded record using file record call, but medication is not visible in Workflow manager. Do we need to get permission from EMIS to perform this action?. Please provide your guidance on this. Thanks in advance.
Hi Bhargav,
Thank you for contacting the NHS England API Platform developer community.
As your query relates specifically to how medication entries are processed and displayed within EMIS (e.g. in Workflow Manager), we recommend contacting the EMIS Partner Support team directly, as NHS England’s API Platform is not able to assist with EMIS-native behaviour or permissions.
That said, we would recommend the following :
- The FileRecord call does not natively support structured medication filing that would surface in Workflow Manager — this typically requires EMIS prescribing APIs or internal workflows.
- You may need specific permissions or product certification from EMIS to enable medication-related functionality.
- An alternative pattern is to log medication suggestions within the consultation record and surface them as tasks for clinicians to action directly in EMIS.
We recommend raising this directly with EMIS Partner Support for confirmation on what’s supported and what your product is currently authorised to do.
