We’ve enhanced the Healthcare Worker FHIR API to include various professional registration IDs.

Specifically, you can now get the following:

- GMC number
- consultant code
- Doctor’s Index Number
- GMP code

You can’t search by these identifiers yet - that’s coming next.

The underlying data store, Spine Directory Service (SDS), does include other professional registration IDs, but we’ve chosen to exclude them from the Healthcare Worker API because they are either deprecated or the data quality is poor.

For more details, see the [Healthcare Worker FHIR API specification](https://digital.nhs.uk/developer/api-catalogue/healthcare-worker-fhir).

If you have any questions or suggestions related to this change, please let us know in the comments below.

Great news.

This API is a lot easier to use than the one in ODT FHIR API [https://digital.nhs.uk/developer/api-catalogue/organisation-data-terminology#get-/CodeSystem/](https://digital.nhs.uk/developer/api-catalogue/organisation-data-terminology#get-/CodeSystem/)
(it’s not that obvious that they overlap - it allows you to search on the professional codes but doesn’t have the link to NHS Englands local codes for users)
